Reading Oliver’s Most Favorite Game: A Journey of Creativity, Purpose, and Connection

When I first created Oliver’s Most Favorite Game, I had no idea how much of an impact it would have. What started as a simple project to help a friend’s son navigate life after ear surgery evolved into something so much more meaningful. Today, I’m excited to share a video of myself reading the book, not just to showcase the story, but to highlight the journey it represents and the purpose behind its creation.

The Evolution of Oliver’s Most Favorite Game

The idea for this book came to me when I was searching for resources to help a little boy understand and cope with the changes he faced after ear surgery. Nothing I found seemed to fit, so I decided to write something myself. Oliver’s Most Favorite Game was born out of a desire to make those tough moments a little easier for children and their families.

The story follows Oliver, a young bear who struggles with the limitations that come after his surgery. Unable to play outside or go on outings with his dad, Oliver feels frustrated and sad. But his father’s creativity changes everything—together, they turn their playroom into a pretend science center, sparking joy and connection. What began as a way to fill their days became Oliver’s most favorite game.

Writing this book was a journey of learning and growth for me. It taught me how powerful a simple story can be in helping children process big emotions and find joy in unexpected places.

Why I Created This Video

This video is more than just a reading of Oliver’s Most Favorite Game. It’s an opportunity to connect with readers, share the heart behind the story, and encourage families to explore imaginative ways to navigate difficult times. Watching a story come to life through video adds a new dimension to the experience—one that I hope inspires parents and children alike.

By sharing this video, I want to reach parents looking for tools to support their children through challenges, whether it’s a medical procedure, emotional struggles, or simply adjusting to life’s changes. I also want kids to see themselves in Oliver and feel empowered to find joy and creativity, even in tough situations.

What Oliver’s Most Favorite Game Is Good For

This book isn’t just for children recovering from ear surgery—it’s for anyone navigating a season of change or challenge. Here are some ways it can be helpful:

  • For Families: It offers a starting point for conversations about emotions, limitations, and finding creative solutions.

  • For Educators: The story can be used in classrooms to foster empathy and discussions about resilience.

  • For Therapists: It serves as a gentle resource to help children process their emotions and feel less alone.

Ultimately, Oliver’s Most Favorite Game is about finding joy, connection, and resilience in the face of adversity. It’s a story that reminds us all—adults and children alike—that sometimes the best memories are made when we embrace the unexpected.

Join Me in Celebrating Oliver’s Story

I hope you’ll take a moment to watch the video and experience Oliver’s journey. Whether you’re a parent, educator, or simply someone who loves children’s stories, I believe you’ll find something meaningful in his tale. And if you know a child who could benefit from this story, I’d love for you to share it with them.

Thank you for allowing me to share a piece of my heart with you through this book. I look forward to hearing how Oliver’s Most Favorite Game resonates with you and your family.

Heather W.
